Despite having the same appearance, Apple’s new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are quite distinct machines on the inside thanks to their M4 CPUs. With three USB-C ports instead of just two and 16GB of RAM as standard, the $1,599 14-inch model is also a far better value than it was previously. Although the M4 chip is a respectable improvement over the M3, the M4 Pro stunned us with previously unheard-of Geekbench and Cinebench scores. The multithreaded performance of the Pro model is almost identical to the combined performance of two rival Windows laptops!

In addition to the upgraded CPUs, the MacBook Pros have a large webcam boost to 12MP from 1080p, and somewhat brighter screens for SDR content, which is useful for working in sunshine. Thus, the MacBook Pros may now utilize both Desk View and Apple’s Center Stage to keep you in frame during video conversations for the first time.

The superb keyboard and incredibly smooth trackpad that we have come to adore over the past few years are also included in these MacBook Pros. Additionally, they include all the interfaces you require, including an SD card reader, three USB-C ports, HDMI, and a 3.5mm jack. Thunderbolt 5 is another feature that the M4 Pro and M4 Max CPUs offer enabling quicker connectivity to external devices.

In our video rundown test, both devices’ batteries lasted more over 30 hours, meaning they could comfortably function for several workdays without needing to be recharged.
